Randy has nearly thirty years of experience in visual journalism including photography, picture editing, video editing, sound editing and design, page design, multimedia production and team leadership. For nine years he was
the director of photography at The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Virginia. In 2017 he became the director of video and podcasting for The Pilot. Before joining The Pilot team, Randall was the director of photography at The San Francisco Chronicle (2003-2007). Between The Pilot and The Chronicle, Randall's teams have netted a Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography, two POYi Photographer of the Year awards, a NPPA Photojournalist of the Year award and a POYi Newspaper Best Use of Pictures award.
