Before teaching, RYAN SPARROW was an award-winning page designer, photographer and editor at newspapers in Indiana, Kentucky and Florida. For the last nine years, Ryan has taught in Ball State University's Department of Journalism graphics and photojournalism sequence. His classes have included a high-level multimedia-storytelling seminar in which broadcast students, writers, photographers and designers develop in-depth interactive projects. Ryan has started work on developing curriculum for a program focusing on using unmanned aerial systems for journalistic storytelling.
In addition to teaching, Ryan is the director of the Society for News Design's Best of Digital Design competition. He also continues to work as a freelance photographer.
